Android 5.0 , storage performance issues

By With No comments:

Wassup guys this is "PC" from "Tech to Catch" , thanks 4 coming back to this heavenly place .I hope you will enjoy.

While the US government is trying to convince tech companies and the media that encrypted devices are bad news because they can protect criminals, there might actually be a more technical reason to be wary of this new practice, at least under certain circumstances. Popular tech site AnandTech has just released results of their storage performance benchmarks, revealing a drastic drop in read and write performance on devices running Android Lollipop. The culprit? Full Device Encryption that is enforced in new devices running that version of Android.

Android has actually had storage encryption features going way back, but it is only in Android 5.0 and only in new devices that Google has flipped the switch on by default. The purpose is to combat the recent spate of spying as well as to deter theft, but AnandTech argues it might all be for naught and for little gain. Considering the encryption key is the lockscreen passcode that a lot of users do not set, the security benefits might just be nullified and yet users still get burdened by the slower storage performance.

According to the site, the technical reason for this performance hit is that, unlike SSD storage, the eMMC technology used in smartphones do not have a hardware encryption system nor do they support encryption/decryption processes without performance penalties. The benchmarks shown here test the Nexus 6, which comes with Android Lollipop out of the box, and the Nexus 5. In the case of the Nexus 6, AnandTech was provided with a variant of the smartphone that doesn't have Full Disk Encryption enabled. The Nexus 5, on the other hand, doesn't automatically turn on encryption when upgrading from KitKat to Lollipop so the feature has to be turned on explicitly.

The hardest part to swallow for those who want to bail out of this new arrangement is that, at least for now, there is no simple way to disable encryption at all. In Android 4.4 and lower, all users need to do is to enable or disable an option but Android 5.0 offers no such control. Not all is lost, however, as bbedward from XDA came up with a solution, which practically involves flashing the Nexus 6 clean and starting from scratch. New Nexus 6 owners who are just starting with their smartphone might want to look into this option if their device feels sluggish. Hopefully, Google will be able to come up with a better solution that won't compromise security and privacy but won't punish users for it as well.

Is Windows 10 a bullshit?.. ft.Microsoft.

By With No comments:
Wassup guys , this is PRANSHU CHITTORA frm"Tech to Catch"..
After the Windows 8, Microsoft is going to launch Windows 10. I am sure that there is a question in your mind "What the heck about Window 9?”. No problem, I have the answer. During the official launch of the Tech Preview, Microsoft officially announced that they will launch Win.10 as their next gen Windows. So let’s check out , how the Windows 10 will look like...

Microsoft/Windows/Windows10

UI

Windows 10 UI is more better than the Windows 8, because Microsoft has been removed the discordant "Tile System" , but not completely they placed it in the start menu for Desktop users , But Touch based devices users have to face that disgusting "Tile System". Talking of Start Menus , Windows 10 will come with the Old n Awesome Start menu.  A thumps Up to Microsoft.....

The most exciting thing about the windows 10 is that you can see the opened apps on the Taskbar, just like Windows 7 . There is search menu in the start menu which shows results from device as well as from the web. There is a search bar in the start menu which shows results from the system as well as from the web .As it is a preview so I recommend you to install this in a secondary system or you can install this in a Virtual Machine (for e.g. VM Ware) .

Multi-Tasking

As we are introduced with the windows 8 multi taking, it was not so bad . In windows 10 Microsoft is trying to improve the multi-tasking experience as much as possible. So they introduced Task View, just like the Workspace in Linux . Which enables huge load of multi-tasking.

Appearance

Microsoft tried hard to improve the appearance of their new windows. But its much similar to the Windows 8 .They only put the tile in the Start Menu as mentioned above.

As its a preview only or we can say a demo version of Windows. So what new things Microsoft will add, we can know this after the full Windows 10 launch.

What is apple Pay , Explained . ft.PC

By With No comments:
Apple's "Apple Pay" is an all new innovation in e-pay. It uses primitive NFC (Near Field Communication) in an innovative new way.

How to Setup?
Passbook already stores your boarding passes, tickets, coupons, and more. Now it can store your credit and debit cards, too. To get started, you can add the credit or debit card from your iTunes account to Passbook by simply entering the card security code.

To add a new card on iPhone, use your iSight camera to instantly capture your card information. Or simply type it in manually. The first card you add automatically becomes your default payment card, but you can go to Passbook anytime to pay with a different card or select a new default in Settings.

How to pay ?

Paying with Apple Pay is an easiest & fastest way of paying . No one could even thought of using the NFC in this way , its just incredible. To pay , you need to take your phone near the contactless reader and then just place your finger on the Touch ID sensor .No need to check for confirmation ,  a subtle vibration and beep lets you know.

Security

Every time you hand over your credit or debit card to pay, your card number and identity are visible. With Apple Pay, instead of using your actual credit and debit card numbers when you add your card to Passbook, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, a dedicated chip in iPhone. These numbers are never stored on Apple servers. And when you make a purchase, the Device Account Number, along with a transaction-specific dynamic security code, is used to process your payment. So your actual credit or debit card numbers are never shared by Apple with merchants or transmitted with payment.

Protect your accounts. Even if you lose your device. If your iPhone is ever lost or stolen, you can use Find My iPhone to quickly put your device in Lost Mode so nothing is accessible, or you can wipe your iPhone clean completely.

Privacy
Apple doesn’t save your transaction information. With Apple Pay, your payments are private. Apple doesn’t store the details of your transactions so they can’t be tied back to you. Your most recent purchases are kept in Passbook for your convenience, but that’s as far as it goes.

Keep your cards in your wallet. Since you never have to show your credit or debit card, you never reveal your name, card number, or security code to the cashier when you pay in a store. This additional layer of privacy helps ensure that your information stays where it belongs. With you.

Conclusion

Overall its a good start by apple in the race of e-pay.Its innovative , Hazel free , fast & convenient . But for this you need to buy apple's flagship i.e. iphone 6 or iphone 6 plus. Which is not feasible and after the Bending problem in iphones , people lost their trust from apple..

Next Nexus Tab will be Made by HTC and runs on NVIDIA's Chip

By With No comments:
Wassup guys , welcome back this is PRANSHU CHITTORA from "Tech To Catch"..A new WSJ report claims Google Inc has tied up with HTC Corp to make its upcoming 9-inch Nexus tablet.

I've been hearing rumours about HTC building the new Nexus tablet for several months. While neither HTC nor Google has confirmed the rumours, a new report from Wall Street Journal claims the two companies will be officially launching the next generation Nexus tablet.

According to Wall Street Journal, Google association with HTC and aimed to build a wider base of partners. The report points out that Google changes partners for different devices, a move aimed to preventing monopoly of any manufacturer. This is one of the main reasons why Google had been considering HTC for the next Nexus, the WSJ quotes a person familiar to the development as saying.

The device is expected to come with 16 or 32 Gigs of internal storage options. It is expected to have an 8MP camera with optical image stabilisation and 3MP front facing camera.TheVerge also reports HTC is making the next Nexus tablet. The site claims the next gen Nexus is powered by a Tegra K1 processor. According to previous leaks, the next Nexus tablet features an 8.9-inch display with 2048 x 1440 pixels resolution along with 281 ppi. The tablet will be powered by a 64-bit NVIDIA Logan processor (Tegra K1) and 2GB of RAM.

The tablet will feature zero-gap aluminum build and may have stereo front-facing speakers, though leaked image doesn't conform. The Nexus 9 will measure 226.3 x 151.9 x 7.9 mm, and weigh about 418g (in Wi-Fi-only) or 427g (with 4G LTE).

These are just Rumours , not official announcement. Is this rumours are true or not , we will only able to know the reality behind these rumours , only after the official announcement of the next Nexus Tablet.

Google, IEEE offer $1 million as prize for a laptop sized power inverter

By With No comments:

Google and IEEE start 'Little Box Challenge' to build a compact power inverter for home that can transform renewable energy into a power source.
Google, IEEE offer $1 million as prize for a laptop sized power inverter
Google in partnership with Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), has started a 'Little Box Challenge' to design and build a kW-scale power inverter.
The device can be used to convert renewable energy, including solar and wind, into current for home and vehicles. The Little Box challenge is that the new device has to be of the size of a small laptop.
"We are looking for someone to build a kW-scale inverter with a power density greater than 50W per cubic inch. Do it best and we will give you a million bucks," Google said in a blog post.
Google believes that this will help "change the future of electricity". "We believe that inverters will become increasingly important to our economy and environment as solar PV, batteries, and similar power sources continue their rapid growth," Google said.
Google added that the new power inverter would help increase efficiency, while bringing down costs. It stated that by making the power inverter smaller, would help bring electricity to the most remote parts of the planet.
"A smaller inverter could help create low-cost microgrids in remote parts of the world. Or allow you to keep the lights on during a blackout via your electric car's battery. Or enable advances we haven't even thought of yet," Eric RaymondBSE -2.39 % from Google's Green Team wrote.
The last date for registration for the 'Little Box Challenger' is September 30, 2014 and the grand prize winner will be announced in January 2016.
Google has been expanding its role in advanced energy and the internet giant has made investments in solar and wind projects to power its data centers. Recently the California based company has hired electronics engineers for their “Bottom Up Grid” project, which the company states aims to “fundamentally change the world of power.”
